Closing Days

How to get a library card
- You will need a library card to borrow books and audiovisual materials and to view audiovisual material in the library.
- The Central Library accepts registrations and issues cards between 9 am and 7 pm. All branch libraries accept registrations and issue cards during regular opening hours.
- You are eligible for a library card if you are a resident of Fuchu City, if you go to school or work in Fuchu City, or if you live in a city that has a reciprocal borrowing arrangement with Fuchu City.

On presentation of a piece of ID (individual number card, health insurance card, driver's license, residence card, passport or other ID) as proof of residence

Interlibrary use

- The library card can be used at all library facilities in the city.
- Please return your library card if you are no longer eligible for reasons of moving away, changing jobs or graduating from school.
- Organizations active in Fuchu City (kindergartens, nursery schools, study circles etc.) are also eligible for a library card. Please contact the Central Library for details about conditions for registration and applicable rules.
- The library card expires after five years. If you wish to continue using the library, you must renew the card.
- Temporary notification can't be identification.
Borrowing
Checking out materials (individuals)
- Please take your personal library card and the materials you wish to borrow to the checkout counter. As a rule, you may not use the card of another family member.
- The library card can be used at all library facilities in the city.
- The Central Library provides self-checkout units that you can use to check out materials.
Loan period and number of items
- Books and magazines
Encyclopedias, dictionaries and other reference materials, the latest issue of magazines and newspapers are not available for loan but must be consulted in the library.- Residents, eligible students and workers: Maximum 10 items/2 weeks
- Interlibrary use: Maximum 5 items/2 weeks
- E-books
- Residents, eligible students and workers: Maximum 3 items/2 weeks
- Audiovisual materials
Please note that these items must be ordered from the Central Library as branch libraries do no stock them.- Residents, eligible students and workers: 6 items/week
- Interlibrary use: 3 items/week

- Residents, eligible students and workers: 5 items/2 weeks
Renewals
- Books and magazines may be renewed before the expiry of the loan period. Most items can be renewed twice for a loan period of two weeks as long as no one is waiting for them.
- Audiovisual materials and interlibrary loans may not be renewed.
- Materials may be renewed by using the online library catalog on our homepage. (You will need a password. Please note that reciprocal library users cannot use the online catalog but may renew materials over the telephone or in person.)
Returns
Returning materials
- You do not need your library card to return materials.
- Please do not return materials directly to the shelves.
- You may return materials to any library in the city even if you borrowed the materials from another branch library.
- Please remember to rewind videotapes and cassette tapes before returning them.
Returns on holidays and after hours
- Please deposit materials in the book returns box when the library is closed.
- Please bring audiovisual materials to the returns counter during library opening hours as these items are easily damaged.
- The book returns box may be closed during the extended New Year's holiday in which case we request that library materials are kept at home. (Users will be notified of closures in advance.)
